updated on 01 January 2006 Identity theft Note: basic approach to protection against identity theft has not changed since 2003. Lets try to find out what usual information stored on your hard drive could be used to help thief to pretend to be you (or your company). For example only my name, address, birth day, and account number was all what major north European bank asked before selling my shares (I asked them to sell). Do you have similar data stored on your PC?
Do you know that there are some places on the Internet where family trees information are available online. Those records contain details such as parents names. Does your bank use your mother maiden name to check your identity to give you access to your financial information? 18 June 2003 Some companies have started providing insurance against Identity Theft. This is very nice, but their policies should be read very carefully. Would it protect credit rating damaged by thieves? What about removal of criminal records ? What about damage to your business reputation as result of thieves activities ? Read more about it here. BTW Australian government put up good brochure here. It is in PDF format. |
